LUBBE FOUNDATION : Why did I not continue with my passion?
Every time I do get new followers, I re-post my articles that I received feedback from. With all I do get the same question : " If I complain about so many things, why don't I do something about it? or If it is so terrible, what have I done so far?". Let me tell you guys,
I am currently a 44 yo, white, male. Single with no dependents working for a Government Agency in South Africa. I grew up in a small town where Apartheid and Anti-Gay was high. Even though I am one of 4 children that had the best father and still have the best mother anyone could ask for. Since my early childhood my parents thought us that there is no such thing as apartheid and that what people are doing discriminating against race, gender was wrong. (very confusing while being thought by ones parent this and the rest of South Africa including churches wanted to enforce apartheid.) Never less were we also thought the value of nature and the value of helping others. By this norm and standard my parents set and stood for, my dad died a very poor man and my mother is dependent on social grant. In spite of this, my sister that is really not healthy were declined disability grant in spite of many medical reports we obtained for her, but on a daily basis I see hundreds of people getting disability grant that is younger than I am and still fit to work. It feels as if government want to fight poverty by giving anybody other than white that is unemployed a disability grant.
Well 2010 I registered the Lubbe Foundation to cater specially for the old and children in need in harmony of protecting our environment. This project would have been self sustainable and would have ensured expansion. However looking at the fact that it is not a sole welfare company as required in South Africa that everything received must be given out in each financial year, I registered it as a profitable company. This is not new and many churches and welfare organizations are registered in the same way to foresee expansion. I did put in everything I had and pursued my dream to leave a legacy one day in honor of my parents for years to come.
This soon was stopped for several reasons, nl. If not catering for certain groups and individuals as determined by government, one would not get any support from government. Especially when it is a non political, non racial and not affiliated to any specific religion. One of my sub-projects when submitted to a senior government official, the question he asked me is what is in for them. (in person). With the tides changing and personal finances running out, the general public, would not assist in funding my project for they would have no personal gain out off it. I then went and contacted International organizations and Companies, all with the same old story, if not benefiting out of it they cannot support. If not AIDS related they cannot support. I just asked our government for a mere $5million U.S. with the condition that my project would be independent however I would appreciate it if the Government could oversee and monitor operations for it would help me to identify issues that might have been overseen by me or my team. I asked for major International organizations as well as churches locally and international to help raise the money and be part of the project in a monitoring capacity, but with great sadness were declined. The whole project would also have been registered in the family name to ensure that greed and corruption would not steal from the poor and that funds would be regulated by the family trust.
Looking at the world food program, the world health organization, the WWF, and many more. All is just giving to countries with poverty, but do not set guidelines where corrective measures can be instituted by governments to let the people heal their countries and become fairly sustainable. I know of a government that gave each house hold a cow and a bull as well as a pair of chicken. With a condition that they should utilize the end product (milk and eggs) to become self sufficient. Well after several years, poverty is still there however the demand for food became less and the burden on welfare became less. That country is busy to crawl out of poverty and slowly the fight against hunger and health issues become a success story. Why always just give and give. A great wise man once said : WHY WOULD ONE GIVE A FAMILY A FISH EVERY DAY IF YOU CAN GIVE THEM A ROD AND TEACH THEM HOW TO FISH FOR THEMSELVES.
I currently still do have my day job and if no miracle happens where I would be able to fund such a project while being alive, I surely would let my pension fund and finances generated from my personal effects be used to fund the project with strict guidelines. Yes one should provide for ones old age and family. However the general mentality of people in this age is the more they have, the more they want and they would rather see their neighbor die of hunger than help him. Please don't understand me wrong. There is people that is just too lazy and therefore do not have any sympathy for them, however our forgotten old and the future of tomorrow, our children and then nature, need urgent attention.
Hope this will answer the above question and I will continue posting this every time I get the questions.
